A first introduction to CNC
At around 15, the founder began helping with a SYIL X7 hobby CNC mill. Making early parts quickly developed into a genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing.
Our story
Built through hands-on machining experience.
Cley CNC began with a fascination for turning designs into real components. That interest grew into practical production experience—and then into a business.
Where it began
From a hobby machine at Cley View to a growing UK manufacturer.
The Cley CNC name comes from the place where the business was founded, near Cley Hill. The private home address is not part of the public business location, but the origin remains an important part of the story.
Today, Cley CNC operates around an XYZ 750 LR and is moving into a dedicated unit at Westbury Trading Estate.

Learning CAD
Designing parts, not just imagining them
Time spent teaching himself CAD made it possible to turn ideas into accurate digital models, including components for GCSE Design & Technology projects.
Learning CAM
Understanding how designs become parts
The next step was CAM: choosing tools, setting work up, creating toolpaths, and learning how feeds, speeds and materials affect the machining process.
More capability
Moving to the XYZ 750 LR
The original machine was replaced by the more capable XYZ 750 LR, bringing greater spindle power and torque for more demanding work and improved production times.
First major customer
Real repeat-production experience
Cley CNC began producing components for Motorsport Electronics. Current work includes roughly 70 parts per month for this customer across repeat batches and smaller engineering jobs.

What began in the original Cley View workshop became Cley CNC: a focused machining business serving companies, engineers and individuals with practical, responsive support.
The next chapter
A dedicated Westbury workshop
The business is moving into a dedicated unit at Westbury Trading Estate—the next step in gradually increasing capacity while keeping the personal service it began with.

The XYZ 750 LR.
The move from the original SYIL X7 to the XYZ 750 LR brought more capability, spindle power and torque. It enabled more demanding components and better production times while the founder continued developing practical knowledge of tooling, workholding and material behaviour.
